Turn a picture book into a short review
Record the title and author, draw a favourite scene, explain a feeling about the book and choose a star rating. Younger children can talk while an adult writes their words.
- Read or revisit the book together.
- Choose one scene and describe what is happening before drawing it.
- Name a feeling and explain which part of the story caused it.
- Choose a rating and say why.
Try this example
A useful sentence starter is: “My favourite part was ___ because ___.” For a feeling, try: “I felt ___ when ___.”
A review can express a different opinion from an adult’s. Ask your child to explain their choice using a detail from the story.
